(4) Martyrs, (607) Arrests and (81) Demolitions in Jerusalem Governorate during the Third Quarter of 2022
The Jerusalem governorate monitored the violations of the Israeli occupation in the governorate during the third quarter of 2022, and the violations focused on brutal executions, arrests, decisions of actual detention, demolitions, eviction decisions, deportation decisions and home confinement, in addition to daily incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
During the third quarter of 2022, the Jerusalem Governorate monitored the elevation of (4) martyrs in the Jerusalem Governorate, where the young Mohammed Sheham rose on the morning of August 15, where he received direct bullets to the head and chest from a distance of zero, and he was left bleeding, then the occupation forces stole his body and detained him for 45 days, and he was handed over on September 29 to his relatives at the Qalandia military checkpoint north of occupied Jerusalem, in conjunction with the presence of the occupation forces intensively at the checkpoint.
On the first of September, the Israeli occupation forces executed the young man "Yazan Afaneh" from the Qalandia camp north of occupied Jerusalem, and on September 23, the occupation forces executed at late hours the 23-year-old Jerusalemite "Mohammed Abu Jumaa", a resident of the town of Al-Tur in occupied Jerusalem, and his body was held by them.
On 24 September, the Israeli occupation forces executed the 36-year-old Jerusalemite "Muhammad Abu Kafiyah" from the town of Beit Ijza, northwest of occupied Jerusalem, and detained his body with them.
As for the bodies of the martyrs whose bodies were detained, the occupation authorities handed over on the evening of August 22 the body of the Jerusalemite martyr Dr. "May Afaneh", 30 years old, from the town of Abu Dis east of occupied Jerusalem at the checkpoint of the military al-zaim east of Jerusalem, after holding her body for a period of (14 months), it is mentioned that the occupation forces executed her in cold blood on the date (16/06/2022) after shooting her near the town of Hizma, northeast of occupied Jerusalem.
On the evening of 29 September, the occupation authorities handed over the body of the martyr (Mohammed al-Shaham), whom the occupation executed on 15 August 2022, after detaining him for 45 days. The occupation authorities are still holding the bodies of (19) Jerusalemites martyrs in the occupation refrigerators and the graves of the figures until the end of September 2022.
On the first of August, the occupation forces and his intelligence forces stormed the house of the Governor of Jerusalem "Adnan Ghaith" in the town of Silwan, arrested him in the interrogation rooms in the so-called "Compound" center in occupied Jerusalem, and extended his detention three times to prepare an indictment against him, which raises the number of arrests of Governor Ghaith to thirty-five times since he assumed his duties as governor of the occupied capital at the end of August 2018, to release About him on the 4th of August / on the condition of open home confinement , which is a judicial precedent that refers to a new policy taken against the governor, namely open home confinement and house arrest only in his home, in addition to imposing a high fine of NIS 25,000 towards him and the direction of its signatories from his family and friends, and according to the decision of the occupation court, these new conditions and restrictions imposed on the governor of Jerusalem come as a prelude to his trial within an indictment that includes several items, and the decision to house arrest was followed by almost daily raids on the house of the governor of Jerusalem, under the pretext of ensuring his presence At his home.
With regard to settler attacks and provocations, which increase in frequency every month, during the third quarter of 2022, settlers carried out more than 127 attacks, including about 30 attacks of physical abuse.
One of the most prominent attacks during the month of July was the attack on herds of settlers, headed by the extremist Ben Gvir, members of the family of the Jerusalemite martyr "Fadi Qunbar" and their detention inside the elevator of an Israeli court, after a session was held to discuss the decisions to withdraw the identities and residences of 11 relatives of the martyr.
During the third quarter, the Jerusalem governorate also monitored casualties resulting from the use of excessive force by the occupying forces against Jerusalemites throughout the occupied capital.
Some (515) injuries were detected as a result of live and rubber-coated metal bullets, gas suffocation, severe beatings and attacks by the occupation forces and settlers, and children had a large share of the injuries.
The occupation forces imposed their tightening on the doors of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, harassed and searched worshippers and confiscated their identity cards, coinciding with the settlers' incursions into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem governorate monitored the incursions of extremist settlers into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque during the third quarter of 2022, where (15,178) settlers, and (213,616) under the name of tourism, stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque from the side of the Maghreb Gate under the tight protection of the heavily armed special occupation forces.
The highest recorded was on August 7, when (2,201) settlers stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the morning and evening periods, divided into 37 regiments, to commemorate the so-called "anniversary of the destruction of the Temple", and carried out numerous violations such as singing, dancing, cursing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), raising the flag of the occupation, attacking the Almoravids, and threatening to demolish the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock and expel Muslims from it.
An increase in the number of intruders is observed in the third quarter between 2021 and 2022, with 14,692 settlers being incurred in 2021.
In another context, stones and dust continue to fall from the pillars inside the settlement known as the "Old Al-Aqsa Mosque", in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, following the continuation of the excavations of the occupation under and around the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the "Islamic Awqaf Department" continues to demand that the occupation police disembark a specialized technical team from the Islamic endowments to examine the excavations taking place in the vicinity of the southern wall of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, but the occupation police are still procrastinating on this.
With regard to arrests, the arrests carried out by the occupation forces against the residents of the Jerusalem governorate are escalating, as about (607) cases of arrest of citizens in all areas of the Jerusalem governorate were monitored during the third quarter of 2022.
The racist occupation courts also issued (51) sentences of actual imprisonment against Jerusalem prisoners, including (24) sentences of administrative detention.
(45) decisions of house arrest issued by the occupation authorities against Jerusalemite citizens, including many children, were monitored, including (18) decisions to open home detention without approving a specific period for the end of the decision, a new punishment that the occupation authorities have become largely following against Jerusalemites in recent times.
The third quarter of 2022 witnessed the issuance of deportation decisions by the occupation authorities from Jerusalem, the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City, in an attempt to control the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the surrounding places, and issued about (81) decisions to expel, including (47) decisions to remove from Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City. It also handed over and renewed travel bans to (9) citizens.
As for demolitions and bulldozing, during the third quarter of 2022, (67) demolitions were monitored in the occupied Jerusalem governorate, including (48) demolitions by occupation mechanisms, (19) forced self-demolitions, in addition to the implementation of (19) land dredging operations.
In another context, the occupation authorities handed over many demolition notices to several houses and commercial facilities in many towns in the occupied Jerusalem governorate. During the third quarter of 2022, the Israeli occupation authorities handed over more than 107 demolition notices to homes in various areas of occupied Jerusalem.
 With regard to the issue of prisoners, prisoners in the prisons of the occupation are fighting a fierce war no less than what is happening outside it, where the administration of the Israeli occupation prisons continues to abuse and assault them continuously.
On July 28, prisoner Raed Rayan from the town of Beit Daqo, northwest of occupied Jerusalem, suspended his open-ended hunger strike, about 113 days after his strike, in rejection of the policy of administrative detention, after a conditional agreement to set a time for his release.
With regard to the campaign demanding the early release of the Jerusalemite prisoner "Ahmed Manasra", the occupation authorities on 17 August extended the solitary confinement against him for an additional 6 months, despite the constant demands for his release due to the deterioration of his health and psychological condition, which Amnesty International described as a "very unjust atrocity", and on 1 September the occupation court rejected the appeals filed by the defense team of "Ahmed Manasra", which demands the annulment of the committee's decision on the classification of his file as "terrorism", the court also rejected the request of the defense team for his release and kept his detention in isolation.
In the context of continuous attempts to suppress Jerusalem's institutions and undermine any Jerusalem efforts within the city of Jerusalem, the occupation continues to suppress and close these institutions and suppress the events that prove the presence of Jerusalemite in the occupied city.
On July 28, the Israeli government's Ministry of Education withdrew the licenses of six schools in Jerusalem for a year, citing "incitement in textbooks against the occupation state and army." The decision includes the Ibrahimiya School in Sawana and the Faith Schools with all its branches in Beit Hanina in occupied Jerusalem. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Education of the occupation withdrew from the said schools the permanent work permit and replaced it with a temporary license for a period of one year, which renews the licenses under the conditions of amendment to the teaching curriculum and what it called "inflammatory contents. The Israeli government’s Ministry of Education claimed that there were contents about the prisoners, about preventing the treatment of the injured, controlling water sources, and the Nakba and the setback.
As for settlement projects, the occupation authorities seek to impose a new reality on the occupied city of Jerusalem through the implementation of serious settlement projects, as in August the occupation authorities approved (27) serious settlement projects, including projects that they have already begun to implement. In July, the occupation authorities approved (10) large settlement projects, in August the occupation authorities approved (9) settlement projects, while in September the occupation forces approved (8) settlement projects.
The settlement projects are aimed at building and expanding existing settlements, building new settlements on the lands of Jerusalemites, restricting Arab towns, villages and neighborhoods, infrastructure projects at the expense of Jerusalemites, establishing a network of tunnels to facilitate the movement of settlers, and projects for Bab al-Maghareba to facilitate and intensify settler incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In addition to dozens of projects that the occupation authorities are working to discuss and study for approval in the coming periods.
